Elon Musk announced on Tuesday that the artificial intelligence startup xAI’s chatbot, Grok, will now be accessible to all premium subscribers of the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter. This expansion was revealed through a post on X, although specific details were not disclosed. Notably, Grok was previously restricted to Premium+ subscribers only.
With a growing number of advertisers shifting away from the microblogging platform, Musk has emphasized the importance of reducing the company’s dependence on advertising revenue. Instead, he has directed attention towards enhancing subscription plans to attract users.
Earlier this month, Musk disclosed plans for xAI to make Grok open-source, following his legal action against OpenAI, which he accused of veering from its original mission towards a profit-driven approach. This decision could potentially grant the public free access to explore the underlying code of the technology. It also brings xAI in line with companies like Meta and France’s Mistral, both of which embrace open-source AI models.
