Linda Yaccarino has announced she is stepping down as CEO of X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
In a post on the platform, Yaccarino expressed her gratitude to Elon Musk, who hired her in May 2023. She said she was “immensely grateful” for the opportunity to lead the company during a significant period of change.
Yaccarino, a former advertising executive, joined X after Musk acquired the platform for $44 billion in late 2022. At the time, Musk said she would handle business operations while he focused on product development and technology.
During her time at the company, Yaccarino played a key role in its transformation into what Musk calls the “Everything App.” She said the platform has become a “digital town square for all voices and the world’s most powerful culture signal.”
In her farewell message on Wednesday, Yaccarino remained optimistic about the company’s future. She praised the ongoing work at Musk’s artificial intelligence firm, xAI, which is behind the controversial chatbot Grok.
Despite recent criticism aimed at Grok for offensive content, Yaccarino emphasised that “the best is yet to come” as X begins a new chapter with xAI.
Her departure marks another shift in leadership as Musk continues to reshape the platform according to his vision.
X has not yet announced who will replace Yaccarino or what changes may follow her resignation. For now, Musk remains in charge of the platform’s direction and technology.
