Foundation urges authorities to preserve wild vegetation for pollinators

The Foundation for the Conservation of the Maltese Honey Bee has once again urged the Minister for the Environment to issue instructions, akin to last year, against the premature removal of wild vegetation.

The Foundation lamented that despite their previous appeals to authorities to refrain from clearing wild vegetation along rural pathways, they have observed a recurrence of wild grass removal in certain areas this year.

Emphasizing the pivotal role of wild flora for pollinators, especially during flowering seasons, the Foundation highlighted its significance as a habitat for small animals and as a natural barrier against soil erosion. Furthermore, it underscored the aesthetic value it adds to rural landscapes.

The Foundation underscores the necessity of integrating effective management practices for rural wild grass into the Pollinators Strategy currently being formulated by ERA.
