WhatsApp is trialling a new feature that could help users manage group chats better after complaints about ignored messages. The Meta-owned messaging app is working on a tool that allows replies to be grouped into separate conversation threads. This would help users follow specific discussions within a chat more easily.
According to WABetaInfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp developments, the feature is being tested in the latest Android beta update (version 2.25.7.7). If implemented, users will be able to tap on a thread and view all related replies in one chain, preventing confusion caused by scattered responses.
In a blog post, WABetaInfo explained that WhatsApp is “developing additional tools to improve message management, organisation, and interaction in individual conversations and group chats.” The feature aims to make it easier to track ongoing discussions without scrolling through endless replies.
When users reply to a quoted message, the response will remain attached to the original post. This ensures that conversations stay organised, and users can access related messages in one place.
Threaded conversations are already available in other messaging platforms, such as Apple iMessage and Facebook Messenger. WhatsApp’s adoption of this feature would align it with competitors, enhancing user experience.
There is no confirmed release date for this feature, but it is expected to be included in a future update for group chats, communities, and channels.
