WhatsApp introduces backgrounds and filters in new video call update

WhatsApp is rolling out a new update that allows users to customize their video call backgrounds. With this feature, users can choose from various backdrops, similar to what platforms like Zoom already offer.

In addition to the backdrops, the update introduces new filters that users can apply to their own image. For example, you can now turn your video black and white or add a smoothing “touch up” effect. This feature, also seen on Zoom, enhances skin and adjusts lighting for a more polished appearance.

According to WhatsApp, the new filters aim to help users feel more confident and comfortable during video calls. In a blog post, the company stated the update is designed to make conversations “fun and expressive,” by naturally improving the look and brightness of your surroundings.

There are 10 backdrops to choose from, including Blur, Living Room, Office, Beach, and Forest. Users can also apply 10 filters like Warm, Cool, Vintage TV, and Duo Tone. These features are available for both group and individual calls.

To access the new options, users can click the icon at the top right of the video call screen. The update will be available to all WhatsApp users in the coming weeks, promising more vibrant and enjoyable video conversations.
