Spotify restores service after three-hour outage

Spotify experienced a three-hour outage on Sunday, affecting over 40,000 users in the United States at its peak. Downdetector.com, which monitors outages, reported the widespread disruption, with many users unable to stream music or load playlists. Some could only play recently accessed songs, while others reported random stoppages.

By 3 p.m. ET (1900 GMT), Downdetector reported that less than 600 users were still encountering issues. In a post on social media platform X, Spotify announced, “Everything’s looking much better now!”

However, the streaming giant did not immediately provide details about the cause of the outage. This incident follows Spotify’s recent growth. In the second quarter, the platform reported an increase in paying subscribers, bringing the total to 246 million.

Though services have been restored, some users expressed frustration during the outage, sharing their experiences on Spotify’s community pages. Despite the brief disruption, the company has reassured users that the platform is now functioning normally.

Streaming outages, while rare, can impact millions of listeners, especially for a service as popular as Spotify.
