Universal Music Group (UMG), the world’s largest music label, and Spotify, the Swedish streaming giant, have announced a new multi-year partnership. The agreement, revealed on Sunday, covers recorded music and music publishing across Spotify’s platform in the US and several other countries.
The collaboration promises innovative features, including new subscription tiers, bundled music and non-music content, and expanded audio-visual offerings. “Artists, songwriters, and consumers will benefit from richer experiences,” the companies said in a joint statement.
Spotify CEO Daniel Ek emphasised that the partnership aims to make music subscriptions more appealing globally. Recently, Spotify has made significant changes, including layoffs, reduced marketing, and price increases in the US to boost profitability.
This deal highlights the shared commitment of UMG and Spotify to evolving music consumption, offering a dynamic catalogue for fans while enhancing support for artists and creators worldwide.
