Sony has decided to pull the online shooter Concord from sale, just two weeks after its launch. The game, developed by Firewalk Studios, was released exclusively for PlayStation 5 and PC on August 23rd. However, it struggled to attract players, leading to this drastic decision.
In a blog post on Sony’s website, Ryan Ellis, the game director at Firewalk Studios, announced that Concord would be taken offline on September 6th. Players who purchased the £40 game will receive a full refund. Ellis explained that the team is “determining the best path ahead” for the game’s potential return.
Concord is a hero shooter similar to popular games like Overwatch and Valorant. Players form teams with characters who have unique abilities, competing in various game modes, including deathmatches and objective-based battles. Despite being in development for eight years, the game failed to make a significant impact in the crowded multiplayer market.
The game received mixed reviews, with critics praising its graphics but criticizing its lack of innovation. According to SteamDB, the game only reached a peak of 660 concurrent users on PC, a stark contrast to top games like Counter-Strike 2, which has over a million players.
Ellis acknowledged the feedback from the community, stating that while some aspects of the game resonated with players, others fell short. He expressed gratitude to the players and mentioned that taking the game offline would allow the developers to explore better options to reach their audience.
