Serve Robotics teams up with Wing for drone delivery in Dallas

Serve Robotics, known for its sidewalk delivery robots, is teaming up with Alphabet-owned Wing Aviation to introduce drone deliveries. This new partnership will extend Serve’s operational range to over six miles. The pilot program, set to launch in Dallas, Texas, will mark Serve’s first foray into the drone delivery market.

Under the partnership, Serve’s robots will collect food from restaurants. They will then transfer the orders to Wing drones for delivery. Serve Robotics currently operates in Los Angeles for Uber Eats, 7-Eleven, and Shake Shack. The company aims to expand its services to a wider customer base.

Serve CEO Ali Kashani highlighted that the company’s multi-modal delivery system will enable citywide autonomous deliveries within 30 minutes. This innovation could solve challenges faced by drone deliveries, which have struggled with limited urban takeoff and landing spaces.

Wing CEO Adam Woodworth said the partnership would allow them to reach more merchants in congested areas, while helping Serve expand its delivery radius. Wing has already completed over 400,000 commercial deliveries globally, giving it significant experience in drone logistics.

Serve Robotics, a company spun off from Postmates after Uber’s acquisition, reassured merchants that they won’t need to modify their current operations to accommodate the new robot-to-drone delivery system.

The partnership between Serve and Wing offers a glimpse into the future of urban delivery, combining sidewalk robots and drones for efficient, fast service.
