PlayStation Network (PSN) has been down for hours, leaving gamers unable to get online or access games. The outage affects all PlayStation consoles, including the PS5, PS4, PS3, and PS Vita, according to Sony’s official service status page.
“You might have difficulty launching games, apps, or network features,” read the most recent update on the page. Sony assured users they are working on a fix but provided no timeline for when services would be restored. By the time of writing, the network had been down for more than six hours.
This disruption has created frustration for gamers who rely on the platform for online play and even for launching some games or apps. The problem appeared shortly after a new update was rolled out, which added large ads to the home screens of PS5 consoles. Some users speculated this was an attempt to increase marketing on the system. However, Sony quickly clarified that the ads were caused by a bug.
“A tech error with the Official News feature on the PS5 console has since been resolved,” PlayStation said. The company emphasized that no permanent changes had been made to the game news display.
The outage also comes just days after the launch of EA FC 25, one of the most highly anticipated games of the year, adding to player frustration.
