Nintendo unveils Switch 2: release date, features, and game lineup

Nintendo has officially announced that the highly anticipated Switch 2 will launch on 5 June, marking a major leap forward for the gaming giant. The news follows months of speculation, with the company confirming the device’s arrival in January.

A special Nintendo Direct presentation provided further details on the hardware, confirming improved graphics, enhanced audio, and a new chat function. The announcement also revealed a strong lineup of games, including a fresh version of Mario Kart and major third-party titles like Elden Ring and Street Fighter 6.

The console boasts a larger 7.9-inch screen with 1080p resolution, HDR support, and up to 120fps performance. Other notable upgrades include 256GB of internal storage, bigger buttons and control sticks, and a unique C button for voice chat. A standout feature is the ability to use controllers as a mouse in supported games.

Mario Kart World headlines the new titles, featuring updated graphics, sprawling tracks, and dynamic weather effects. Donkey Kong Bananza and Kirby Air Riders will also arrive later this year. Nintendo confirmed that existing Switch games will be compatible, while some will receive enhanced Switch 2 editions.

Digital versions of Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza are priced at €80 and €70, respectively, with physical editions costing slightly more.

With over 150 million units sold, the original Switch set a high bar. Nintendo aims to meet demand while navigating potential production challenges, ensuring the Switch 2 continues its legacy of success.
