Netflix loses key executives amid major restructuring

Netflix announced the departure of two high-profile executives on Tuesday. Dean Garfield, Vice President of Global Public Policy, and Rachel Whetstone, Chief Communications Officer, are both leaving the company. Netflix’s co-CEO, Ted Sarandos, is reportedly looking to fill a newly created position, Chief Global Affairs Officer, which will combine public policy and communications under one leader.

According to a source close to the matter, no candidates have been chosen for the role. Garfield lacks experience in communications, while Whetstone, with nearly two decades of experience in communications and policy at tech giants like Google, Uber, and Facebook, was reportedly not interested in the new position.

Garfield joined Netflix in 2019 after leading the Information Technology Industry Council. Whetstone, who joined Netflix in 2018, brought valuable experience from previous roles at top U.S. technology companies. Netflix is expected to announce the new role soon, marking a significant shift in its executive structure.
