Microsoft announced on Thursday a massive investment of 14.7 billion reais ($2.70 billion) in Brazil over the next three years. The tech giant aims to strengthen its cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities in Latin America’s largest economy.
This commitment is the largest investment Microsoft has ever made in Brazil. The company believes that the widespread use of AI could add up to 4.2 percentage points to Brazil’s economic growth by the end of this decade. This investment is part of the broader “Microsoft Mais Brasil” program, first launched in 2020, to reaffirm Microsoft’s long-term partnership with Brazil.
Microsoft plans to expand its cloud and AI infrastructure through several data centers in São Paulo state. Additionally, it will offer AI training to five million people across Brazil over the next three years.
Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, emphasized the company’s commitment to advancing AI in Brazil, ensuring that its benefits reach all sectors of society. Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin highlighted that the investment shows Brazil’s potential to be a global leader in AI. He also mentioned that Brazil’s renewable energy sources would power the data centers, aligning with sustainable development goals.
This major investment could significantly accelerate Brazil’s digital transformation and economic growth through AI and advanced cloud technologies.
