Irish regulator fines LinkedIn over data privacy violations

The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) has issued a fine against Microsoft’s LinkedIn unit, stating that unauthorized processing of personal data infringes on individuals’ fundamental data protection rights.

DPC Deputy Commissioner Graham Doyle emphasized that processing without legal grounds is a severe violation.

Microsoft anticipated this fine last year, predicting a charge of approximately $425 million.

LinkedIn responded, asserting its commitment to GDPR compliance but pledging to adjust its advertising practices to meet the DPC’s requirements.

The decision highlights growing regulatory scrutiny on tech giants and their handling of user data across Europe.
