Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., announced plans to open its second data center in Latin America. The new facility will be located in Canelones, Uruguay, with an investment exceeding $850 million. This move marks Google’s continued expansion in the region. It follows the first Latin American data center in Quilicura, Chile, established in 2015.
In a blog post, Google expressed optimism about the project’s impact. The company highlighted its potential to advance professional and technological development in Uruguay and beyond.
The company is also exploring further global expansion. Reuters reported that Google may build a “hyperscale” data center near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, slated for completion by 2027.
Additionally, Google recently announced a $3 billion investment in Indiana and Virginia. The company also committed $2 billion to establish its first data center in Malaysia.
