Bluesky, a fast-growing social media platform, is facing criticism for violating European Union regulations. A European Commission spokesperson revealed during Monday’s briefing that Bluesky has failed to provide key legal details.
“All platforms in the EU, even smaller ones like Bluesky, must disclose user numbers and legal establishment information. Bluesky has not complied,” the spokesperson stated.
Although Bluesky is not classified as a “Very Large Platform” under the EU’s Digital Services Act, it is still required to meet transparency obligations. The Commission has not directly approached the company but has asked national governments across the EU to investigate further.
Bluesky’s current lack of transparency has raised questions about its compliance with EU standards. The company did not respond to a request for comment at the time of writing.
This issue highlights the EU’s firm stance on digital accountability for platforms of all sizes.
