Apple cuts 100 jobs in digital services shakeup

Apple Inc. has eliminated about 100 jobs in its digital services group, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday. The layoffs mainly impacted the team responsible for the Apple Books app and Apple Bookstore. Some engineering roles and teams managing Apple News were also affected.

Apple declined to comment on the report. The company had around 161,000 full-time employees as of September 30, 2023, but the exact number in its services division remains unclear.

This move is part of Apple’s ongoing reorganization as it shifts focus to artificial intelligence. Earlier this year, Apple paused work on its next high-end Vision headset and canceled a project to develop its own smartwatch displays. The company has also faced declining sales in China, its third-largest market, where revenue dropped by 6.5% last quarter.
