Amazon launches first colour Kindle e-reader

Amazon has officially introduced its first colour Kindle e-reader, the ‘Kindle Colorsoft’, after years of development. The new device, priced at $280, marks a major step forward in e-reading technology. It offers a vibrant colour display using LEDs. This makes it stand out from traditional eInk-based Kindles, which have been known for their long battery life but only offered black-and-white displays.

The ‘Kindle Colorsoft’ has a battery life of about eight weeks. This is slightly shorter than the three-month battery life of Amazon’s popular Paperwhite model. The company also announced an updated version of the Paperwhite, featuring a slightly larger 7-inch screen.

Amazon has also upgraded its Kindle Scribe, a unique e-reader that allows users to take notes directly on the screen with a stylus. The new version includes artificial intelligence features that can turn handwritten notes into organized bullet points.

Amazon continues to dominate the e-reader market, with more than 75% of the market share. The devices are designed to last for years. They are often sold at close to cost, with Amazon making most of its profits from selling e-books and other digital content.

The ‘Kindle Colorsoft’ will be available to customers starting on October 30. The new Scribe is set to ship on December 4.
